The podcast

Conversations with founders, operators and builders about the parts of the work that usually get left out of the retelling.

Where to listen

Episodes are published on Scooter Taylor's YouTube channel. A dedicated podcast hub on this site is in progress; until it exists, YouTube is the complete archive rather than a partial one.

What it is about

The version of a company's story that gets told publicly is almost always the tidy one — the one where the decisions look obvious in hindsight and the difficult year is a sentence. This is an attempt at the other version.

That means the conversations tend to go toward the things that are ordinarily edited out: what the founder believed at the start that turned out to be wrong, what the first ten customers actually cost to get, which hire was a mistake and why it took so long to admit it.

Why it lives inside a community rather than beside one

Because the guests are largely people already in the West Peek network, and the episodes tend to produce introductions rather than just downloads. A conversation that ends with two listeners meeting each other is doing more work than one that ends with a subscriber count.

That is the same logic West Peek Productions applies to client work — see storytelling and content, where the argument is that a recording is raw material rather than the finished product.

Get told when episodes drop

Two options, both free: subscribe on YouTube, or join the community list and select podcast updates. The list also carries event invitations and the newsletter, and it does not send anything on a schedule.

Common questions

Is the podcast on Spotify or Apple Podcasts?

Episodes are currently published on YouTube. If that changes, it will be announced on the community list first.

How do I suggest a guest, or come on?

Email [email protected]. Being part of the community is the usual route.

How often do episodes come out?

There is no fixed schedule. Episodes are published when a conversation is worth publishing, which is the same standard the newsletter is held to.
